Coming up from the 7th through the 21st of September, the Cultural Association “The Friends of Santorini” will present for the 40th consecutive time, the International Music Festival of Santorini. This year, six concerts across several music genres will be performed at the Petros Nomikos Conference Center in Fira.

The 2018 iteration of the International Music Festival of Santorini will be held under the direction of the artistic direction of Athena Capodistria, an honored soloist who has performed with orchestras across Europe.

The festival opens Friday September 7th with the String Orchestra of the Festival of Santorini under the direction of the distinguished conductor Miltos Logiadis, featuring the legendary Hungarian cellist Istvan Vardai and pianist Athena Capodistria. These extraordinary artists are to perform pieces from J.S. Bach, Haydn, and Grieg.

The first Sunday’s program will include Vardan and French pianist Pascal Godart performing Schumann, Beethoven, and Brahms.

On Friday the 13th, the festival will present chamber music featuring Italian clarinet player Fabrizio Meloni, Slovenian cellist Milos Mlejnik, and Greek pianist Capodistria.

The Vougas-Kontrafouris Quartet will perform Jazz improvisations, followed on Tuesday the 18th by a piano recital with Fil Liotis’ renditions of  Mozart, Debussy, Liszt, and Albeniz.

Friday the 21st will close the festival with an evening of operatic music starring Romanian soprano Cellia Costea, baritone Tassis Christoyannis,  and Carolos Zouganelis on piano. Arias for this performance will include Verdi, Puccini, Saint Saens, Lehar, and others.

All performances begin at 21:00, and tickets will be 20€ per concert.
